Construction and cost of treatmentsThere are differences in cost for the construction of each of the microtopographic treatments. The hilled treatment is the cheapest of the three treatments to build due to less labour time and machinery costs. The treatments were built as follow: A peat mineral mix base layer (35cm) applied flat on all treatments. Control: FFM applied with the first pass of machinery on top of the PMM layer. Followed by a second pass to flatten the FFM layer. Ridged: FFM applied in the first pass on top of PMM layer. Second pass includes flattening the FFM layer. Third pass required to go over again to create ridges. This is the most expensive treatment to build. Hilled: small piles from the FFM and PMM stockpiles are pushed down the slope to create the small hills. This treatment does not require the same machinery and labour time to drive back and forth on site. This is the cheapest treatment to build. |
